In a significant shift from the previous plan of a single mega pharma city under the BRS regime, the state government has now unveiled its ‘Mega Master Plan-2050.’ The new strategy involves establishing smaller pharma clusters or villages across nine districts, namely Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Siddipet, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, and Nalgonda.
As part of this initiative, collectors from these districts have been instructed to identify land parcels ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 acres. The goal is to have 20 to 30 drug pharma companies in each cluster, strategically located 50 to 60 km beyond the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The project is expected to kick off within the next 12 months.
The salient features of these pharma villages include a limited footprint to accommodate not more than 20 to 30 companies at each site. These clusters will be situated far from human habitation, closer to the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR), and designed to be self-sustaining.
“The idea is to develop 10 to 12 such villages that are well-connected through the RRR and state/national highways, and self-contained with education, health, and social infrastructure,” explained Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of IT and Industries.
In addition to fostering the growth of the pharmaceutical industry, the clusters will feature housing, education, health, and social infrastructure to create holistic environments. This forward-looking initiative aims to boost the pharmaceutical sector while ensuring sustainable development and connectivity in the region.
